According to the regulations outlined in the Olympiad's charter, Malaysia, as the host country, is participating in this edition with two teams.

The selected projects for this edition focus on global challenges related to the applications of nanotechnology in the development and production of alternative energies, including wind energy, solar energy, nuclear energy, hydrogen fuel, tidal energy, geothermal energy, and biomass energy.

The Director of the Permanent Secretariat of the International Nano Olympiad and head of the Iranian team stated that students Nima Dehghan and Hamidreza Ghorbani from Isfahan University of Technology, along with two faculty advisors, will present their projects on alternative energies at this Olympiad.

He also added that the format of this Olympiad is unique and does not involve written exams; instead, participants present their research projects through oral presentations.

He also highlighted the development of scientific and technological collaborations with related organizations in Malaysia as one of the key objectives of this event.

Participants have two days to present their research projects on global challenges at the second International Nano Olympiad in Malaysia. The announcement of winners and the awarding of prizes will take place during the closing ceremony on Monday, November 18, 2024.

Taiwan has also expressed its readiness to host the third edition of the International Nano Olympiad in 2026.
The first edition of the Olympiad was held in 2018 in Iran, hosted by Pardis Technology Park, with teams from eight countries, including Taiwan, Malaysia, Russia, South Korea, Germany, Italy, the UK, and Iran.

The second edition, after a six-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is currently being hosted by Malaysia this year.

The Nano Olympiad was first proposed and introduced by Iran’s Nanotechnology Innovation Council in international forums, including the Asia Nano Forum, and was warmly received globally.

The Islamic Republic of Iran developed the Olympiad's regulations and established a Steering Committee chaired by Tehran, with members from countries such as Russia, Taiwan, South Korea, the European Union, and later Oman.

Based on this framework, the Permanent Secretariat of the International Nano Olympiad is located in Tehran, while the Executive Secretariat is determined and established in the host country every two years.
